The critical point in storing LPG in rock mass is preventing leakage. In the rock mass that forms an underground cavern, there are innumerable fissures saturated with water that forms a constant water table. In order for the water pressure in the surrounding rock to be greater than the pressure of the gas, and thus prevent the gas from escaping, the cavern must be located 120 meters or more below sea level. Furthermore, the site must be located near the sea or large lakes, so that the underground water level remains stable.
E1 was the first LPG company in Korea to be accredited with the ISO 9002 certification on October 20th, 1994. On June 30th, 2003, this was converted to ISO 9001, acquiring international reliance in the quality management system such as the acquisition, storage, refueling, and supply of LPG, and additional services.
E1 was awarded the Industrial Award, the highest award in the industry, during the Gas Safety Promotion Convention on November 22nd, 1996, for its contribution to the development of the Gas industry and safety management, by operating an accident-free company and dramatically improving the gas management system.
E1’s Yeosu terminal is the first LPG underground rock cavern storage in Korea. Since its construction, a computerized safety management system was set-up, with remote cut-off and emergency fire detection functions and a gas leakage detection system. As a result of our utmost efforts for safety management, we have achieved 32 years of zero accidents as of April 19th, 2016. This record is the first in the gas industry and a rarity in other industries as well. Since the operation of the LPG import terminal in 1984, we have managed to run the company without a single gas-related accident.
E1’s Yeosu terminal acquired the Certification for Excellence in Safety and Health Management, the first in the LPG industry, from the Ministry of Labor on August 26th, 1999. The first in the industry to be accredited with the ISO 9002 certification, Yeosu terminal’s 15 years of zero accidents are some of the ways of describing E1, which is leading the development of Korea’s LPG industry by providing a stable supply of LPF in Korea. By acquiring the Certification for Excellence in Safety and Health Management, E1 has been recognized for its high reliability as the best safety management company.
